Chalit Fuang-arom’s bio

Chalit Fuang-arom was born on October 30, 1948 in Ayutthaya province where he later moved to Bangkok to attend Bangkok Christian College. His star qualities shined in his early years at school where he would be fond of appearing in school plays.

After high school, Chalit went on to Chiang Mai University where he majored in Business Administration. Because he was so passionate about acting, he decided to enroll in a masters degree course in Mass Communication where he also got the chance to study acting. His talents saw him rise quickly in the ranks to become President of the university’s Drama Association. Chalit also got a master’s degree in economics from the United States. He immediately became a full time actor upon his return home from the United States, whilst simultaneously holding down a job as a banker. He started off acting in TV dramas before landing his first film role in “Plae Kao” by Cherd Songsee. Chalit played Somchai, a gentleman from Bangkok who was the main obstacle that would prevent the main characters, Kwan and Riam, from loving each other.

“Plae Kao” premiered at Thai cinemas in 1977 and won huge acclaim from critics. It also made Chalit a star. Two years later, Chalit clinched his first lead role in Ruang Risaya co-starring Thitima Sangkapitak and directed by Patravadee Mevudhon. He also took the lead role in “Arom” in 1980. Chalit has starred in over 20 movies from the period of 1977-1987 including “Rai Rak Asoon”, “Mue Puen Carabao”, “Pleng Sood Tai”, “Jub Tai” and “Um Daeng Muan Kub Nai Rid” while also appearing in soap operas whenever he could. In 1986, he was in a popular stage play, “Chan Puchai Naya”. A film was also made based on the play in which he played its lead role.

Chalit’s role in the entertainment industry has declined but he can still be seen appearing in the odd television dramas every once in awhile. There is no question that he is one of Thailand’s film legends and will always be a part of Thailand’s entertainment history.

Thitima Sangkapitak’s bio

Thitima Sangkapitak was born in Bangkok on April 27, 1958. Her break into the entertainment industry began when she was hired to appear in television advertisements while still an undergraduate at Bangkok University.

The turning point in her career came when Patravadi Mechudhon announced that she was looking for a leading actress to star opposite Chalit Fuang-arom in “Rak Risaya”. Someone later told Patravadi about the sweet-faced Thitima who eventually went to ask for her parent’s house for her to be the star of her movie.

At just 18, Thitima then took on the role of Pattama in “Rak Risaya” in 1979, a role that had earlier made a star out of Amara Asvanand back in 1957. With no prior experience in acting, Thitima’s performance was so convincing that she was nominated for the Best Actress category in the Suraswadi award. In 1980, she also took on the role of Yupadee in “Chua Fah Din Salai” where she was once again nominated for the Suppanahong prize for best actress.

Thitima has performed in hundreds of films including “Rak Prakasit”, “San Kampaeng”, “Waew Mayura”, “Sweater See Dang”, “Lung Kar Dang” and in 1990 she finally won the Best Actress prize at the film critics’ award from her performance in “Pook Pui” now officially a national treasure.

Her latest role was in “Um Dang Muan Kub Nai Rid” in which she co-starred with Chalit Fuang-arom. Although Thitima still acts from time to time, she is now more focused on her role as a producer for television programmes.
